Maria Luxe aka marialuxee - @fashionnovacurve | I went high street shopping the other day, it’s been a while since I’ve bought clothes that weren’t from online and I have to admit, worse day ever. I still felt excluded, I felt like my size didn’t matter & worse, no one cared for my size. H&M, Next, John Lewis, Debenhams, River Island… nothing. 5 hours I spent jumping from shop to shop to try to find something that fit over my thighs… something that didn’t feel like it had me in a chokehold… somethinggg that didn’t make me feel like my arms were the hulk trying to breakthrough… Then I finally remembered, Newlook has a plus section! Went into store to find out that they no longer have that section available… you don’t have it available? So I asked the lovely retail worker, ‘but how can they get rid of a whole plus-size section? There are many girls over a size 14/16uk?’ Her reply was that I need to go to a town that is a 40 min drive to find the plus section in a Newlook store. So I need to travel EXTRA just to find something suitable for my body? And BAM! I was reminded of the little girl who went into shops after school with her friends & would walk out with only jewellery because unlike my size 6,8 or 10uk friends… I had nothing that fit me. I was reminded of the isolation. A little girl trying to fit in but ironically couldn’t fit in any clothes! I felt my self esteem getting triggered & had to remind myself of the bad bish I am. But little me didn’t know I was a bad bish. Little me just wanted to be seen & heard & to dress nicely! Plus girls don’t want to always wear floral, leggings or overly baggy clothes that show no shape. I’m not trying to hide!! So why do all the retail brands keep making us feel like we need to be hidden?! Sad that things still haven’t changed much for the younger generation. To all my plus girls on here, if you don’t feel valued where you are shopping… please SAVE YOUR MONEY & spend it elsewhere!
