It is reported that as soon as they enter the room, the officers can be seen shooting Lewis in the video. The guy was handcuffed while still hurt and had one arm raised when he was shot. Authorities charged him with resistance when they later administered CPR and medical care. Donovan Lewis passed away from his injuries at Ohio Health Grant Medical Center an hour later. At the shooting location, there were no firearms to be found.
According to the New York Post, the Columbus Division of Police has asked a state agency to look into whether or not the shooting was lawful in response to Donovan Lewis’ passing. At a news conference on Tuesday, Columbus Chief of Police Elaine Bryant played the video in reaction to the controversy surrounding the incident. Although it hasn’t been proven, she suggested that the officers might have mistaken the vape pen for a gun.

Bryant said that there was like a vape pen that was found on the bed right next to him and that Donovan Lewis lost his life. As a parent, I sympathize and I grieve with his mother, she added. Bryant further said that she grieves with their community but they are going to allow this investigation to take place. Officer Ricky Anderson, a 30-year police veteran who is thought to have fired the deadly bullets, has been suspended during the course of the shooting inquiry, the Chief of Police also stated.

Bryant declared that the agency was entirely committed to making police responsible if they broke rules. Columbus attorney Rex Elliott has condemned the authorities for the way they handled the incident. Releasing a statement, Elliot said that Lewis was a son, grandson, brother, and friend. Adding further, he said that as a result of this entirely reckless behavior by a Columbus Police Officer, a family is left to grieve the loss of such a young soul. Follow for more updates.
