Who won Jeopardy! tonight? March 17, 2023, Friday

The popular TV game show ‘Jeopardy!’ season 39 returned on Friday, March 17, 2023, with an exciting new episode featuring a returning champion and two new players. Stephen Webb, a data scientist from Longmont, Colorado, was the returning hero who had previously won eight consecutive games, banking a total of $184,881, and secured his spot in the 2023 Tournament of Champions. The other two contestants were Kelly Barry, a marketing specialist from Seattle, Washington, and Mark Bernstein, a retired software engineer from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The game show tests the players’ knowledge in various subjects, including general knowledge, history, trends, and more. In the first round, the categories were “City Of The Debut, Shoe Know It, TV, You Say!, ‘Tri’ Me, Out and About The Universe, Speak Your Reality.” New player Kelly Barry gave tough competition to the returning champion Stephen Webb in the March 17 episode.

Stephen appeared to be a little tired after winning eight games in a row. He gave several incorrect answers and couldn’t beat Kelly in the ringer war. Stephen gave 11 correct and five incorrect responses, while Kelly offered eight correct responses, but most of them were high-valued. She took the lead in the first round, while Mark Bernstein came in third place after missing the Daily Double. He answered four correct and one incorrect response.

At the end of the first round, Kelly had $5,200, Stephen had $3,000, and Mark had $800. In the second round, the categories were “The Caribbean, Songs From Movies, History, Irish Creators, Shape Up, Boat Out.” The Double Jeopardy round came with two Daily Doubles. Mark picked both but answered only one correctly. He remained in third place, while Stephen and Kelly swapped positions. Kelly lost points due to several high-value incorrect responses, giving Stephen a slight edge to take the lead on the scoreboard.

At the end of the second round, Stephen had $12,600, Kelly had $11,600, and Mark had $4,000. In the Final Jeopardy round, Stephen’s winning streak came to an end after winning eight games consecutively. Both Stephen and Mark’s final answers were incorrect, and their scores went below the $5,000 mark. Kelly was the only player to give the correct response to the final question.

The category for the final question/hint was “Statehood,” and the clue read: “Congress yielded in 1890 after this upcoming state said it would wait 100 years instead of coming in without women.” The correct response to the final question was “Wyoming.” Only Kelly gave the correct answer, while Mark guessed “Wisconsin,” and Stephen guessed “Colorado.”

At the end of the March 17 episode, Kelly Barry won with a total of $14,600 (What is Wyoming?) and became the new champion, Mark Bernstein ended up with $2,000 (What is Wisconsin?), and Stephen Webb had $1,999 (What is Colorado?).
